Fees & Billing Arrangement

Pensioner’s 65yo with a pension card are bulk billed.   

Children under the age of 16 years are bulk billed.

Payment is required after consultation and a Medicare rebate can be directly funded back to your account

Appointments

An appointment is required to see our Doctors at the clinic, if you think your appointment will be more involved please ask for a longer appointment. If you require a procedure please mention this to reception when making an appointment so your appointment can be scheduled accordingly.

Care Outside normal Opening Hours

Medical care is available to our patients at all times. When the surgery is closed you can call 1800 022 222 for medical telephone advice or attend the After Hours Doctor Surgery at Derwent Park, 6165 2361. If you are experiencing a medical emergency call 000.

Scripts

Some prescriptions can be prescribed by a phone request, a script fee does apply.

How To Find Us

The Sorell Doctors Surgery is located at 31 Gordon Street Sorell. We are next door to the Chemmart Pharmacy.

New Patients

Sorell Doctors Surgery can only accept immediate family members of current patients of the surgery.

Home Visits

Home visits are available for regular patients of this practice whose condition prevents them from attending the surgery and lives in a 4km radius of the surgery. Home visits are at the discretion of the treating doctor, and an out of pocket fee may apply.

Results

At times your doctor may request tests such as pathology, radiology or ultrasound to be performed. These test are vital in managing the overall health and wellbeing for our patients. These test are not routinely bulk billed and a fee may be charged by the provider. Please discuss this with your doctor prior to having the test performed.

To receive your results please contact the surgery after 2pm by calling 6165 1595 at least 24 hours after the test has been completed. Should the doctor wish to discuss your results with you, an appointment will be made then.

Certificates

Medical and workers compensations certificates are a legal document. It is medico legal requirements that patients are seen by the doctor before a medical certificate can be issues. These cannot be backdated.

Parking

We have an 80 space car park 2 doors down from our surgery and 4 disabled car parks outside our surgery.

Recalls

This practice uses a computerised system for routine recall and reminders. Patients can be recalled for routine test such as pap smears, blood test and childhood vaccinations. Patients can either opt in or opt out of such programs by notifying staff.

Privacy Policy

All patient information is private and confidentiality of patient information must be maintained at all times. The rights of every patient are to be respected. All information collected by this practice in providing a health service is deemed to be private and confidential.

This practice complies with Federal and State privacy regulations including the Privacy Act 1998, the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 as well as the standards set out in the RACGP Handbook for the Management of Health Information in Private Medical Practice 1st Edition (2002). (Refer Section 6 Privacy and Security of Health Information).

Under no circumstances are employees of this practice to discuss or in any way reveal patient conditions or documentation to unauthorised staff, colleagues, other patients, family or friends, whether at the practice or outside it, such as in the home or at social occasions. This includes patient’s accounts, referral letters or other clinical documentation.

General Practitioners and staff are aware of confidentiality requirements for all patient encounters and recognise that significant breaches of confidentiality may provide grounds for disciplinary action or dismissal.

Every employee of this practice is aware of the privacy policy and has signed a privacy statement as part of their terms and conditions of employment. This privacy statement continues to be binding on employees even after their employment has terminated.
